What we do
Rice Purity Test Online lets anyone take the well-known 100-question purity test in a couple of minutes, see their score instantly, and understand it without judgement.
Alongside the test we publish short guides that answer the questions people ask most: what a score means, what counts as a “good” score, how scores tend to change with age, and where the test came from.
Where the test comes from
The Rice Purity Test is a tradition associated with Rice University in Houston, Texas, where versions of the questionnaire were shared among students as a light-hearted way to get to know one another. Over the years it spread far beyond campus and became a popular online quiz.
How your score is calculated
You start at 100. The test lists 100 experiences across five areas — romance, intimacy, substances, legal matters and general life experiences — and every item you tick subtracts one point. A higher score means fewer of the listed experiences; a lower score means more.
| Score | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| 90–100 | Very few of the listed experiences |
| 70–89 | Some experiences — common for younger test-takers |
| 40–69 | A moderate number — common among university students |
| 0–39 | A wide range of life experiences |
A score is not a grade, and there is no “right” number. It is a snapshot of experiences, not a measure of character or worth. Read more in what your rice purity score means.

Who runs this site
Rice Purity Test Online is an independent website run by a small editorial team with an interest in internet culture, social trends and student life. We are not a dating, counselling or medical service, and nothing on this site is professional advice.
How we write our guides
- Plain and non-judgemental: we explain scores without shaming any result.
- Clear about data: averages mentioned on this site come from self-reported, informal results and are meant as a rough guide, not scientific research.
- Kept up to date: every article shows when it was published or last updated, and we revisit guides regularly.
- Open to corrections: if you spot a mistake, tell us and we will review it.
Who the test is for
The test includes questions about sexual experiences, alcohol and drugs, so this site is intended for adults aged 18 and over. It is for entertainment and self-reflection only.
